Why your Google reviews matter more than your website
Reviews shape who gets the call, and now they shape what AI recommends. How to build them steadily.
Here's a hard truth for anyone who just paid for a new website: for a lot of customers, your reviews do more selling than your homepage. People check reviews before they ever click through, and AI assistants lean on reviews when deciding which businesses to name.
Reviews come first in the journey
A search for "plumber near me" shows star ratings in the map pack before anyone sees your site. A 4.8 with 200 reviews beats a beautiful website with 12 reviews almost every time.
AI tools double-check with reviews
When people get a recommendation from AI, most still verify it. BrightLocal found that 88% of AI users fact-check AI recommendations, and 97% sometimes check them against real reviews (BrightLocal). Strong reviews close the deal that AI started.
How to build reviews steadily
- Ask every happy customer, right after the job, while they're still glad they called you.
- Make it one tap. Send a direct link to your Google review form by text.
- Reply to every review, good or bad, briefly and kindly. Future customers read the replies.
- Never buy or fake reviews. It breaks Google's rules and can get reviews removed.
So does your website still matter?
Absolutely. Reviews get you the click, and your website turns that click into a call. The best results come from both working together: strong reviews, a fast site that answers questions, and the same details everywhere.
